About the event
The Tomkins Institute is thrilled to offer the next virtual gathering for our members Saturday, June 15 from 4 - 5:30 pm Eastern Standard Time. Join us to delve into the remarkable connection between neuroscience, the neurobiology of affects, and the profound insights of Silvan Tomkins' affect script theory. Uncover how the neurobiology of affects disrupts the cycle of trauma by liberating traumatized individuals from self-judgment. The therapeutic goal helps the client access / metabolize ALL the affects triggered by the traumatic experience without shaming judgments and moving toward evoking self-compassion and acceptance and a sense of celebration for their survival.
But that's just the beginning. We'll venture further into the realm of restorative work, firmly grounded in affect script theory. We'll unveil what neuroscience teaches educators about the 'why,' 'what,' and 'how' of restorative processes with a focus on regulating, relating, and reasoning as pillars of the transformative learning journey. Our discussion will reinforce Silvan Tomkins’ work, such as the importance of working with the Central Blueprint in helping the client access and maximize pleasurable affects; access and minimize painful/punishing affects; maximize the ability to express all affects and maximize the capacity to do all three.
We will be joined by: Joseph A. Izzo, Trauma informed psychotherapist & EMDR practitioner Margaret Thorsborne, Author of "Psychology of Emotion in Restorative Practice" with Vick Kelly (2014) and more recently "Becoming a Trauma Informed Restorative Educator" with Joe Brummer, Managing Director of Margaret Thorsborne & Associates and Transformative Justice Australia Ellen McShane, Author of “Conquering Trauma and Anxiety to Find Happiness,” Retired University of Vermont Administrator It's a journey of understanding, healing, and transformation that you won't want to miss!
